Les nouveautés eKookie pour analyser et présenter les cookies d’une boutique Shopify

eKookie Evolves: Automatic Analysis and More Transparent Cookies

Setting up a consent banner shouldn't require memorizing all the cookies placed by Shopify, apps, and a store's marketing tools.

With this in mind, we've evolved eKookie. The new version simplifies initial setup, analyzes the cookies actually present on the site, and improves the transparency of information presented to visitors.

A new, simpler, and more pleasant onboarding experience

eKookie's getting started process has been completely redesigned around a short, guided journey. The merchant progresses step by step, without having to navigate between multiple technical screens.

A clear path to configure language, cookies, Consent Mode V2, and category display.

The merchant can now:

  • configure eKookie in their store's primary language;
  • select the tools actually used on their site;
  • more easily find cookies thanks to an organized catalog;
  • add a custom cookie when a service is not yet referenced;
  • verify their configuration before activating it in the Shopify theme.

Each step clearly indicates what needs to be configured and why. The goal is simple: to enable a store to implement consistent consent management without turning the installation into a technical project.

Automatic analysis of cookies present on the store

It's not always easy to know which cookies are actually placed on a Shopify site. Some come directly from Shopify, while others are added by applications, advertising pixels, or external tools.

From eKookie, the merchant can launch an audit that opens the store in an isolated browser and observes cookies in several situations:

  • before the visitor has made their choice;
  • after a global refusal;
  • after a global acceptance.

The inventory distinguishes providers, categories, and different consent scenarios.

The analysis covers several representative pages of the store to create an inventory of observed cookies. For each detected element, eKookie can notably identify its name, domain, retention period, and the moment it appears.

The merchant remains in control. Detection is automatic, but the provider, category, and purpose must be verified before the information is published in the banner.

Cookies grouped by category

A long list of cookies is rarely easy for a visitor to understand. eKookie now allows choices to be presented by broad categories of use: audience measurement, marketing, and preferences.

This organization makes the consent screen more readable. The visitor better understands the purpose of each group and can accept or refuse an entire category, while still having the option to view the details of the tools concerned.

For the merchant, the catalog is also organized by use: essential cookies, audience measurement, advertising, email and CRM, personalization, or personalized services.

Technical trackers become visible

Transparency should not only concern marketing cookies. Strictly necessary cookies and trackers for the store's operation can now be presented in the banner.

This includes, for example, certain elements used by Shopify to manage the cart, navigation, location, or the memorization of consent preferences.

For each published tracker, eKookie can display:

  • its name and domain;
  • its provider;
  • its purpose;
  • its observed retention period;
  • whether it is necessary or optional;
  • a link to the provider's privacy policy, when available.

Visitors thus have a more complete view of the technologies used by the store, even when these do not require consent.

More visibility for the merchant, more clarity for the visitor

This evolution of eKookie pursues a concrete objective: to bring the configuration declared in the application closer to what is actually happening in the store.

The merchant benefits from a more precise inventory and a simplified configuration process. The visitor, meanwhile, benefits from more readable, better structured, and more transparent information.

Technical analysis does not replace legal advice and does not, on its own, guarantee a store's compliance. However, it provides a more solid basis for identifying existing cookies, documenting their use, and maintaining an up-to-date consent banner.
